Erev Rosh Hashanah Hike at Arabia Mountain

Join us before sunset on Erev Rosh Hashanah for a contemplative hike up Arabia Mountain. Through reflection, song, chant, silence and discussion, we will mark this the setting of the sun, calling forth the possibility of our new year. Register below to attend this hike and check out Ma’alot’s High Holidays page to learn more about all our High Holidays services and programs!

Location: Arabia Mountain

Schedule

5:00 Arrive and Gather

5:10 Begin Contemplative Hike*

6:10 Mountaintop Service

7:20 Sunset and Closing

*We are aware that this is typical dinner time for lots of families! Parents – please make sure your kids eat before the hike and we recommend bringing nourishment with you for kids on the hike. We are not doing the personal picnic this year because the sun is setting earlier as High Holidays fall later in the calendar year.

Accessibility Notes

  • There will be two ASL Interpreters at this hike.

  • This is a short hike (under 2 miles) with a mild elevation gain that is taken at a slow pace.

  • The hardest part is the final ascent to the mountain peak.

  • We will take two group pauses during our ascent.

  • We will be mostly standing until we get to the top of the mountain.

  • We will be traversing gravel, dirt, and rock. This hike is not suitable for mobility aids like strollers, wheelchairs, or walkers.
