Join us for the gathering of Song-Holders for Kabbalat Shabbat. We meet at 7:30 the Thursday evening before Kabbalat Shabbat with Rabbi Ariel.
About Ma’alot Shabbat:
We do Kabbalat Shabbat in the round. This means there isn’t just one leader, but a circle of song-holders elevating our prayer. The circular seating is an invitation to everyone to bring their whole selves to the moment. And anyone can be a song-holder in the center- you don’t need to be a singer or a musician. You only need to show up the evening before to sing and set intentions in community.
We believe that it’s better to offer a few words of prayer with kavvanah (intention and feeling) than many words without it (and Rambam agrees). So we sing just a few verses from various psalms of Kabbalat Shabbat, and we sing it over and over so we can really feel it. We embrace it all, the highs and lows, the joy and the grief, together.
We love expanding our inner circle, please join us!
