Ma’alot is a vibrant spiritual Jewish community that transforms lives through music, nature, and Jewish wisdom. With a diverse collective of over 1000 participants from across Atlanta, we host dynamic musical events, experimental Shabbat and holiday celebrations, and embodied rituals in nature. Supported by 50+ Builder households, donors and private foundations, Ma’alot is strengthened by a development committee, advisory council, volunteers, and community partners.
The Need & Position: Manager, Operations and Engagement
Ma’alot seeks a skilled part-time Manager, Operations and Engagement (MOE) to elevate and professionalize the organization’s day-to-day operations, administrative structures, and community engagement. This proactive and experienced professional will streamline logistics, enhance organizational systems, and ensure seamless functionality in support of Ma’alot’s growth.
The MOE will be detail-oriented, proactive, and able play a lead role in managing day-to-day tasks, activities, and dedicated to supporting our growing community and advancing Ma’alot’s mission. In this role, you will partner with Rabbi Ariel to professionalize Ma’alot’s offerings, strengthen community engagement, and align activities with the organization’s mission. Key areas include:
Vision and Strategy
Work with Rabbi A to:
Track implementation of strategic plan/organizational goals
Set agenda and calendar for Org Dev, Builders, and Volunteer Teams
Oversee Ma’alot Calendar
Operations Management
Oversee Ma’alot’s essential operations, including financial tasks, database maintenance, communications.
Develop and solidify systems to help the organization run efficiently with a focus on professionalism and scalability.
Plan and coordinate activities across programs, calendars, volunteer engagement, communications, community partnerships, budgeting and fundraising.
Schedule, organize, and oversee all aspects of events, including securing venues, arranging food or supplies, managing registrations, and maintaining a master calendar of organizational events and deadlines.
Manage Buildership (membership subscriptions) and enrollment of new Builders through CRM.
Help implement Wisdom Circles initiative, grant funded cohort groups that launch at the start of each year.
Community Engagement
Coordinate staff and volunteer coverage of events, guiding volunteers and collaborating with partners in ways that enhance connection and community.
Recruit, train, and manage volunteers for programming, fundraising, and administrative needs, creating and managing a plan to get more volunteers engaged in planning and running events.
Work directly with the Lev Volunteer Corps, a group of core lay-leaders, as its recruiter and organizer.
Guide lay-leaders to coordinate their work with the big picture of Ma’alot’s vision and programming calendar.
Oversee relationships with ongoing and new venues, set budget, and secure space for major and ongoing events.
Financial Management:
CRM: optimize our use vis a vis engagement goal of Strategic Plan, maintain data, generate reports, train and support volunteers and other staff in using our CRM Breeze.
Keep track of program expenses, assist with the expense report process (currently on Ribbon), process invoices, make payments, and track receipts.
Bring relevant data to quarterly Development Committee meetings in coordination with the Treasurer.
Communications Oversight:
Manage the execution of communications, website updates, CRM troubleshooting, and promotional materials.
The Requirements
We’re seeking a detail-oriented and proactive individual who is passionate about community-building and innovative Jewish practices. This is a meaningful opportunity for an organized and enthusiastic professional who believes in the power of Jewish spirituality and connection. While some in-person presence is required, much of the work can be done remotely, offering flexibility alongside impact.
Bachelor’s degree required
At least 3 years of relevant experience preferably with non-profits
Track record of success in developing and managing operations
Demonstrated success in working independently and remotely, combined with strong interpersonal skills as an effective team collaborator.
Experience in community development or volunteer management an attractive plus.
Familiarity with CRM management software database systems an attractive plus.
Reputation for being focused, detail-oriented, engaging and communicative.
The Salary and Benefits
This position is a part-time, salaried contractor role requiring 20-30 hours per week with an annual salary of approximately $30,000 to $52,000, depending on qualifications and experience. Applicants must expect an expanded work schedule during the High Holiday season of up to 40 hours per week over ten weeks per year (six weeks leading up to Rosh Hashanah through Sukkot). We are committed to providing flexibility in the work schedule to support work-life balance, and offer flexible time off as needed.

Paid Time Off (PTO):
Two weeks of vacation per year, based on a 20-hour work week.
Paid time off for major federal holidays and key Jewish holidays, including Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, Sukkot, Passover (first and last days), and Shavuot.
Health Care Stipend:
While this is a contractor role, Ma’alot will provide a stipend that can be used towards healthcare needs.
Flexible Work Arrangements:
While some in-person presence is required for events, meetings, and the High Holiday season, much of the work can be done remotely and flexibly.

Training when needed to improve operational and management skills.
Potential to expand the portfolio and contracted time to include fundraising and fulfill emergent needs as the organization grows.
